Is it possible to have the Sidepanel module open on Page Load?

Yes if you make the changes below I think it will be possible.
1-Open mod_sidepanel_jt1/js/jquery_003.js with text editor
2-Find that code onLoadSlideOut: false
3-Change the false to true on line 38
